11 days private tour of Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Shanghai

Day 1  Arrival Beijing at 03:55h

Upon arrival at the Beijing airport, please proceed to the luggage area to claim your checked bags. Our local DA representative will assist you to board deluxe air-conditioned vehicle waiting outside the terminal building and transfer you to your hotel for a rest.

In the noon,our guide will pick you up from the hotel, then take you to visit Lama Temple, a functioning Buddhist temple with its art treasures that has survived many changes of purpose to become the attraction it poses today. Later, to stroll around at Wangfujing street. Finally, transfer you back to hotel.


Day 2   Beijing

Sightseeing today begins with a visit to the remarkable Temple of Heaven, where emperors from the Ming and Qing Dynasties performed ceremonies and rituals to pray for good harvests and blessings for the country.

Then visit the longest structure ever made by human hands, the Great Wall (Mutianyu, Includes Cable Car Ride) The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure in the world. In fact, the length of all Chinese defense walls built over the last 2000 years is approximately 50,000 kilometres, while the Earth’s circumference is only 40,000 kilometres! Explore the much quieter Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, which was first begun in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-557) and finished in the 17th century. The 2.5kilometer stretch of the Wall allows you to walk along its storied length for over an hour and visit twenty-two watchtowers, should you so choose. Not only will you walk along this wonder of the world yourself, but you will also see it from above during a breathtaking cable car ride to the top. (Cable car tickets are included in cost of tour.)

A stopover at Beijing’s stadium and pool – the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube – built for the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics – provides a modern contrast to China’s ancient history. Return to the hotel.

Transfer back to the hotel and evening free at leisure on your own arrangement.

Day 3   Beijing

Today’s tour begins from the Forbidden City (closed on Monday) and wander through Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public plaza Tiananmen Square Prepare to be overwhelmed by the sheer size of one of the world’s largest public squares, measuring in at 440,000 square meters (over 109 acres). As you walk from the southernmost part of the square all the way down its length, you will pass several monuments, including the mausoleum that houses Chairman Mao’s remains. The northern gate of the square features a portrait of the PRC’s founding father, and is also the gate through which you will enter the Forbidden City.

Enter the Forbidden City and walk in the steps of emperors The Forbidden City was completed in 1420, and was home to 24 emperors, the last of which left Beijing in 1924. The entire imperial complex is reputed to have 9999 rooms, which at its peak housed up to 10,000 people, including the imperial family, 3000 eunuchs, as well as maids and concubines. Discover for yourself why the 170 acres were forbidden to common people as you stroll through what is arguably the best-preserved example of classical Chinese architecture in the world. 

After the Forbidden City tour, exploration continues with a visit to the Summer Palace. Appreciate the beautiful gardens and imagine the lifestyle of royalty who enjoyed this summer resort during imperial times.

Transfer back to the hotel and evening free at leisure on your own arrangement.

 
Day 4   Beijing-Xi’an

Reference train:G57 14:05/18:30

Today go to take the long Route of Pedestrian Hutongs in Dongcheng District (Choose either the Bell Tower or the Drum Tower to enter and overlook the hutongs + Walk around the hutongs + Home visits + Cultural experiences: choosing one out of three (Learn calligraphy/Learn to paint facial makeup/Learn paper-cutting).

Then transfer you to the train station to take high-speed train to Xi’an, about 5 hours on the way.

Upon your arrival at Xi’an North Railway Station, our guide and driver will meet you and transfer you to the hotel for rest.

 

Day 5   Xi’an

The highlight in Xi’an must be the World Wonder Terracotta Warriors, and you are going to see it in flesh this morning. It is located in the east of Xi’an City, about 1 hour’s driving from the downtown. You will visit the 3 pits here one by one to explore it in depth.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred back to Xi’an downtown. There you will visit the ancient City Wall, the best preserved city wall in China. Nowadays it has become a heritage and treasure of the nation. You may walk along the Wall to have a bird eye-view of the inner city and outer city or take a bike on the wall at your own expense if you like. After getting down the Wall, you will be introduced to the Muslim Quarter. The area is inhabited by Hui people, so you can find many Muslim food here. Souvenirs and local snacks are everywhere. If you are looking for a gift to take back home, this may be the perfect place.

 

Day 6  Xi’an-Chengdu

we can visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (no climbing the pagoda), which is a tall and elegant pagoda that was built in the Tang dynasty to house the Buddhist scriptures and relics that were brought from India. The pagoda has a square base and a round top, and is surrounded by a large and peaceful temple complex. Visitors can climb the pagoda to enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the countryside, explore the temple to learn about the Buddhist culture and art, and participate in the various activities and events, such as the lantern festival and the water-sprinkling festival.

Then, transfer you to the train station to take high-speed train to Chengdu. Upon your arrival, meet you and transfer you to the hotel.

 

Day 7  Chengdu

Today takes you to Leshan,famous for its magnificent riverside cliff-carving of a giant Buddha which is the largest stone-carved Buddhist statue in the world, viewed from a boat on the river. Continue in the afternoon to Jinli Ancient Street. Most famous place for baldachin – a rich, ornate cloth, this is a great place to relax, admire the traditional-style buildings, and taste some local snacks. Strolling down the narrow street, you will find yourself surrounded by old- world stores selling Shu Embroidery, lacquer products, folk handicrafts, curios,or calligraphies and paintings of celebrities.

 
Day 8  Chengdu-Shanghai

Spend the morning experiencing a once in a lifetime trip to the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre (battery car included), home to one of China’s largest habitat of pandas. Stroll around the enclosures, take photos and try to spot the lesser-known Red Pandas. In the afternoon take the flight to Shanghai. Upon your arrival at the airport in Shanghai, the guide will meet you and transfer you to the hotel.

 

Day 9  Shanghai

Visit the Shanghai Museum East Hall. It is located in a vibrant area of Shanghai. Its architecture is a modern marvel. The museum houses a wide range of precious artworks and cultural relics. It has extensive collections covering various fields such as ancient Chinese bronzes, ceramics, paintings, and calligraphy. These collections offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore the long and rich history of Chinese art and civilization.

Jade Buddha is a symbol of religious piety and spiritual pursuit. It represents the Buddha’s teachings and is an object of worship for Buddhists. People come to the temple to pay their respects, pray, and seek spiritual comfort and enlightenment.

Then, go to Jin Mao Tower (the 88th floor) which is located in the centre of the Lujiazui area in Shanghai and overlooks the famous Bund across the river. This 88-storey building was the tallest in the city when it was completed and is 420.5 meters high . It resembles a Chinese pagoda, featuring a unique mix of modern and traditional architectural elements. There is an observation deck on the 88th floor, which is an ideal spot to take in panoramic views of Shanghai.

Then, we can head to the Bund, also known as the Waitan, a waterfront promenade that showcases the colonial architecture and the modern skyline of Shanghai. We can take a leisurely walk, take some photos, and soak up the atmosphere of the bustling cityscape.

Finally, transfer you to the hotel.

 

Day 10   Shanghai

A tour of Shanghai can take us to some of the most iconic and scenic spots of the city. The Shanghai Museum is a world-class museum that houses over 120,000 cultural relics from ancient China, including bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy, and paintings. We can admire the exquisite beauty and the historical significance of the artifacts and learn about the evolution and diversity of Chinese civilization.

After that, we can go to the Yu Garden, a classical Chinese garden that features rockeries, pavilions, and ponds, and reflects the harmony and balance of nature and culture. We can stroll through the winding paths, enjoy the tranquility and serenity of the garden, and shop for souvenirs or snacks in the nearby bazaar.

Then go to the Town God’s Temple. It is dedicated to the town god, a deity believed to protect the town and its people. The temple usually features traditional Chinese architecture with intricate carvings and colorful decorations. Inside, there are altars where people offer incense and make prayers for blessings, safety, and good fortune.

Xintiandi Old Shikumen Long-tangs

Xintiandi means New heaven on the earth in Chinese. Local government paid a lot of effort to convert the traditional Shanghai typical architecture into a modern fashionable hub with world-class cosmetic shops ,fancy restaurants and boutique store.

Finally, transfer you to the hotel.

 

Day 11    Shanghai Departure  at 09:40
